Dr Simone is a fully qualified specialist plastic surgeon. She completed her plastic surgery training in Australia through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the only recognised body to certify and train plastic surgeons in Australia.

Dr Simone focuses her practice on both non-surgical and surgical cosmetic procedures of the body and face, as well as reconstructive plastic surgical procedures, especially those involving fat grafting and skin cancer management.

Australian accredited training combined with overseas training fellowships in her areas of expertise

As well as plastic surgery training in Australia, Dr Simone Matousek completed two further post plastic surgery training fellowships, one in breast surgery (Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons/Allergan Breast Fellowship) and the other dedicated to facial aesthetic surgery (Mentor International Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship, London).

She selected surgeons to visit internationally to gain the best possible experience in large volume fat grafting as training in this technique was not available in Australia during her specialist training. Since 2010 she has been able to offer liposuction and fat grafting and it is one of the most common procedures Dr Simone performs.

What does it mean to earn the title of specialist plastic surgeon in Australia?

The title “plastic surgeon” involves many years of supervised training in many different types of procedures; it consists of the management of complex congenital and trauma cases, post-cancer reconstruction, microsurgery as well as what is regarded as purely cosmetic or aesthetic surgery, although there is an overlap between the two in many cases. This extensive training in complex reconstructions means a plastic surgeon is well equipped to handle both primary and revision cases they may be presented with. It is important to note that the title “plastic surgeon” is limited to someone who has passed barrier exams and done extensive training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, whilst the title “cosmetic surgeon” can be used by anyone with a medical degree.

Dr Simone is a plastic surgery provider for members of the Australian Defence Force. Dr Simone is an active member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is an examiner of future surgical trainees for the college.

Why choose a female plastic surgeon?

A female plastic surgeon can provide excellent insight and compassion to help them feel more comfortable during a consultation. Being a female plastic surgeon, she has an excellent awareness of what it means to want to enhance one’s appearance in the most subtle way possible and will be able to appreciate better and interpret your goals for aesthetic surgery.

Dr Simone welcomes all genders and non-binary individuals to the practice. An all-female surgical team is available upon request for those who feel more comfortable with this.

A compassionate listener with meticulous procedural technique who provides regular personalised follow-up for her patients

Dr Simone is a leading female plastic surgeon with a boutique practice based in the grounds of  St Luke’s Private Hospital in Potts Point, Sydney. Dr Simone takes particular care with your consultation and assessment; you will always have enough time to consider your options carefully before deciding to proceed with any non-surgical or plastic surgical procedure.

Two detailed pre-operative consultations have always been encouraged by Dr Simone. It is now the law in Australia that you must have two consultations prior to any cosmetic surgery (this does not apply to non-surgical treatments). If you are interested in consulting with a plastic surgeon regarding cosmetic procedures, details about the requirements in Australia for this are found here

Dr Simone provides a personalised discreet service with attention to detail and follow up. She tries to be available to address any patient concerns in a timely manner.  Dr Simone and her surgical team strive to provide you with the best plastic surgical experience possible in a safe and comfortable surgical environment.

Dr Simone performs all her surgeries in recognised accredited private hospital facilities where she has a dedicated team of nurses and specialist anaesthetists.

She exercises a careful and measured approach, ensuring your procedure is executed safely and skilfully with up to date evidence-based techniques and medical technology. She prides herself on results which do not show the obvious signs of being operated on. Plastic surgery is a fast-evolving speciality with different approaches for a given problem. Technology in both the cosmetic non-surgical and cosmetic surgical space continues to advance. Dr Simone endeavours to stay up to date with all the procedures she performs, through continuing medical education with other specialists worldwide, attending conferences and educating herself about new devices, injectables and skin care.

A commitment to research with a PhD degree in plastic surgery

Dr Simone is one of only a few plastic surgeons who has completed a Doctor of Philosophy or PhD, the highest academic degree a person can achieve. Her original plastic surgery thesis focused on the fascial system and ligamentous anatomy of the breast and buttock. She discovered new anatomical structures that have been recognised internationally and are relevant to plastic surgery operations. This original research has been published in the peer-reviewed plastic surgery journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, PRS and continues to be cited  by other plastic surgeons worldwide.  She has most recently presented her PhD research at Miami’s International Plastic Surgery conference (ISAPS) on liposuction and fat grafting in the buttock region. Her most recent publication is an expert opinion piece on breast anatomy in the July 2020 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery issue.

Extensive fat grafting expertise

Dr Simone pioneered large volume fat grafting in Australia which she has been doing on a regular basis since 2010.  Fat grafting can be used in cosmetic breast augmentation (fat grafting alone or in combination with breast implants), breast reconstruction post-cancer or congenital deformities such as tuberous breast, constricted breast or breast asymmetry. She was the first Australian female plastic surgeon to perform large volume fat grafting (breast augmentation with fat) in Sydney. It is now an internationally recognised and accepted  alternative to breast implants for correcting congenital breast problems (asymmetry or abnormal development such as tuberous breast), soft tissue loss due to trauma, cancer or congenital deformities all over the body, as well as revision liposuction surgery or other revision surgeries where fat transfer could benefit. For those requiring congenital breast reconstruction and breast cancer reconstruction and facial trauma, there is now a Medicare item number for these if they fulfil certain criteria.

A female plastic surgeon with a range of non-surgical treatments

All facial non-surgical procedures are performed by Dr Simone. Poorly done non-surgical procedures are all too common causes of an altered, unusual appearance. Done well, they can slow the ageing process and defer or replace surgical procedures for similar concerns.  Done poorly, they can cause irreversible damage and make a person look older. Unfortunately, they are trivialised and can be performed by people with very little training in anatomy and procedural techniques. There are few barriers to being able to do non-surgical cosmetic treatments in Australia. There is no national minimum standard of training even though non surgical procedures that can have real consequences when performed by inexperienced individuals.

Dr Simone believes an improved skin texture is possible with the correct treatments and will improve the results of any  procedure. The skin suffers from environmental and sun damage which is possible to reverse with laser or light treatments. The Sciton® laser platform available in the practice has a number of skin resurfacing options, including the evidence-based  Forever Young BBL™ facial which can be used on all parts of the body. Plastic surgery has its place, but with non-surgical technology constantly improving, Dr Simone believes that many concerns previously treated only with surgery now have less invasive options. Access to non-surgical procedures and effective skin care solutions is an integral part of modern cosmetic surgery practice.  It is often subtle, cumulative interventions over time and a combination of different treatments that can be more effective than one big surgical procedure.

Dedicated to providing scientifically proven skin care ingredients

Dr Simone has spent the last decade developing a premium skincare line, Skintillation®, launched in 2018 after years of testing and research. It is manufactured in Sydney in conjunction with a cosmetic chemist with over 20 years of experience and is distributed worldwide. Dr Simone oversees every aspect of the production process and personally selects and tests the most effective skin-enhancing and anti-ageing ingredients available from all over the world. She combines these in the correct concentrations to ensure Skintillation® has the most potent anti-ageing effect to complement any plastic surgical or non-surgical procedure. Dr Simone believes reversing skin ageing is one of the most critical factors in maintaining a youthful appearance. For this reason, she has invested in one of the best laser and broadband light devices available, the Sciton®, which allows a range of skin resurfacing and rejuvenation options, including the Forever Young BBL™ facial.

Remember if attending to discuss any cosmetic surgery, you will need a GP referral.

If attending for non-surgical reasons only, you will still need a full consultation for your first visit, however, will not need a referral.

Every patient coming for a treatment at the practice will need to complete a Body dysmorphia screening tool. The link to one of the screening tools is here. It is worthwhile screening prior to booking, otherwise you may be unsuitable to undergo a procedure and a psychological or psychiatric evaluation may be advised. More information about BDD can be found here.
