Labiaplasty is an operation to reduce the size of the labia minora, the of skin that surround the vagina. Ageing, childbearing or congenital problems can lead to changes in size and shape which can cause functional problems. Surgery makes the labia minor appear more concealed inside the outer labia (labia majora).

Who is suitable for surgery?

There is a large variety in the appearance of the labia minora between individuals. Sometimes the skin excess can become bothersome and catch on underwear or be problematic during intercourse.

Sometimes people are born with significant asymmetry between the two sides of the labia minora; these may qualify for a Medicare item number.

How long is the recovery?

Labiaplasty is performed as day surgery. It is possible to return to a desk job within 1-2 days. All sutures are dissolving and the wounds take around 10-14 days to heal. Return to sexual activity is allowed after 6 weeks.
